Injured Bird

I don't know what happened to this little starling. I didn't attempt to touch him, but I easily could have -- I've never seen one this close before! This photo was taken within a foot of where he was sitting in the grass under a tree. He wasn't happy with my presence, but he made no move to fly away. (Double-click on the photo to bring up the full sized image. Look at all the colors in his feathers!)

As a rule I detest starlings, but it's hard not to feel sorry for an individual injured creature.

If you are following along with our challenge you will notice that I have added 2 new participants to our list on the right sidebar. We have seen so many different images already. I am especially enjoying getting to know people through their photography style.

Yes he does look frightened poor thing, I hope he will be okay, his colors remind me of oil slick colors.

around here I would have said a cat tried to grab him, but he could have been tired if he didn't look like he was attacked.
I love photos of birds so thanks for sharing this.

I always hate to see the starlings return here in the spring, but one can't help sympathizing when a little one looks sick or injured.

Oh poor baby, I noticed his color right away so pretty. Really nice capture but hate that he is injured.

wot a wonderful picture Judi
Like you we have these imported pesky birds they may look beautiful and as babies they really are quite cute looking but then they grow up they carry all sorts of vermin on them ie fleas and other stuff and were imported to Aust by the English Settlers wanting to have their familar bird life. Then the Starlings took over and caused the native birds all sorts of problems.
this little fellow ahas my sympathy but he will grow up- but its weird I wish him well he looks so forlorn but show me an adult and bang my sympathy is gone.
love n hugs bear xoxoxo

Somehow I missed this guy first time around, but since I subscribe to your blog with bloglines I caught him this time around. I feel so sorry for him, but looking at him close up is wonderous...his coloring and uniformity of all those little white tips. Wonderful shot and I hope he was just stunned or something and can fly off at some point.
