A Favorite Thing

I don't do houseplants.

(There. I said it. To the dismay of my female friends and relatives, all of whom have luscious displays of indoor foliage, I refuse to keep houseplants because my indoor thumb is, alas, black. If you knew how many plants have suffered gruesome and prolonged deaths at my hands, you would understand why I feel like... well, not a murderess, because I don't do it *on purpose*, but... I don't deserve to be in charge of a life form of this type.)

Except this faithful Christmas Cactus. Heaven knows it has tried to die, but I usually remember to water it in time. Do you think the fairy wind chimes are looking after it?

And even after suffering a level of neglect that would break MY heart, it is putting out blooms for me this year.

It desperately needs repotting, but then... what else would I put in this pot?? I LOVE this pot -- I can't take it out of my window.

I seemed to have a very 'black' thumb in my younger years. I used to love my indoor plants to death but, now, I seem to have gone to the other extreme. lol I am getting better though and my plants seem to do okay. Succulents and cacti are my plants of choice as they are so hardy and can handle a fair bit of neglect.

Nice pic! I love the expression on your 'happy' pot. :)

I kill a lot of houseplants, too, Judi, but I keep trying. I have an orchid that would send me to jail if there was a law against plant abuse. But the darn thing blooms for me every few months anyway...go figure.

I don't have any houseplants - I don't get enough sunlight thru my windows for plants.

how about just re-potting with some nice new soil? ... same pot....it might like that...and in the summer months it says to prune them back a bit..so perhaps just pinch off some of the outer leaves...
Christmas cactus like to dry out slightly between waterings...and then just add a bit of water..not too much... I don't know if you should have sitting in direct sunlight either... but, at least the little guy bloomed... and the pot is very sweet....

I've only been able to keep one plant alive and i think its because I didn't do anything but water it an prune it everyone and awhile. Most plants I touch die :/

that is a very nice pot, get a smaller cacti to put in it?

Aw... that poor plant, but it wants to live badly, doesn't it? I have a very black thumb too and cannot grew anything. I like the pot too!!

Ilove the pot too. Yep, I think those fairy windchimes must be dropping some fairy dust for you and how nice that they dropped enough to get you those lovely blooms.

I'm so with you... I don't do indoor plants and am struggling with my potted plants on the balcony. I love the pot too. I would use it as a pen/pencil holder on my desk. The fairy must be sprinkling fairy dust in between waters.
