Photo a Week - March 16

The birds are returning to the Willamette Valley... could this possibly mean that spring is near at last? I couldn't see any of the newcomers to photograph today, but I got lucky anyway.

This little guy is a year-round resident. (He doesn't look very happy about having his picture taken, does he?) I caught his portrait by accident when my finger snapped a photo while I was still trying to adjust the focus. The white-ish blob to the left is what I was *really* trying to photograph.

Ah, there he is! This enormous red-tail and his mate have set up housekeeping in one of the oak trees across the road. It's too early for nestlings yet, but you can be sure I will be watching!

I have been trying to take a decent portrait of him for a while now. I wish he would let me get closer. Thank goodness for zoom lenses!

I saw a bald eagle yesterday while driving in the country. I didn't have my camera with me (arghhhhh!) but I will be on the lookout for another glimpse. I knew that eagles lived in the foothills and along the Willamette River, but I didn't know that we had them here in the Valley too.

Nice bird shots! I saw a robin last week on the drive home from work and didn't have my camera and haven't seen one since!! It is always exciting when the robins start coming back to us, sure sign of spring! Too bad on the eagle ):

Love that sparrow shot! (It is a sparow, isn't it?) He looks like he is trying his best to look menacing- hee hee!
Great hawk photos! We never seem to have our cameras ready when the hawks visit us.

OH, how cute that little sparrow? looks! Love the hawk pics too. Do they become aggressive when they are nesting? We have magpies and plovers locally which become very aggressive during their nesting season.

very nice shots of the birds :D red-tails were such a common thing where I lived in Canada you could always see them in the trees on the side of the road. Loved seeing them even if there were so common there.

Always exciting when you can actually get good photos of them.

I do envy you being able to watch the hawks nesting. I hope you'll get more photos of them when they do!

some year I'll have to invest in a camera that can get me some close-ups from a distance.... our little sparrows and chickadees are the brave ones that stay all winter... I love them as much as the others that show up in the spring....

Nice photo and don't ya just love it in the spring when you first start hearing them singing in the morning? Next thing you know you are smelling fresh cut grass and hearing motorcycles. Ahhhhh the sounds of spring and summer.
